Cosmetology

 

Express your creativity and talent in hair, skin, nail care and make up. Our cosmetology course incorporates 189 days (60 credits) of extensive hands-on learning to provide you a complete understanding of beauty and wellness. Upon completion, you'll be ready to succeed as a licensed cosmetologist, esthetician and nail technician.

PHASE 1: grounding                                      CREDITS 8.5

WEEKS 1 - 9

FOCUS:                  Welcome to the foundations of cosmetology. The emphasis in this phase is to introduce the fundamentals of shampooing, conditioning, hair coloring, haircutting, hair styling, facial makeup application, hair removal, management, ethics, interpersonal skills and salesmanship, disinfection, sanitation, and safe work practices. Future professionals learn state laws, regulations and safety requirements in preparation for the State Board examination.

 


 

 

PHASE 2: nurturing                                        CREDITS 8.5

WEEKS 10 – 18

FOCUS:                  Future professionals will continue to enhance skills and techniques learned during the grounding phase. In preparation for the clinic floor, the focus for nurturing is cutting techniques and nail care. FPs will also focus on guest services, retailing, the Aveda service cycle and refining skills to prepare for the clinic floor. State Board nail techniques will be examined as well.

 


 

  

PHASE 3: intention                                        CREDITS 8.5

WEEKS 19 – 27

FOCUS:                  The focus for the phase is Skin Care. Aveda Elemental Nature philosophy will be incorporated into facial treatments. Skin analysis, refinement, treatment and spa rituals will be emphasized. FPs will have training in basic facial techniques as well as preparation for the State Board examination.

 


 

  

PHASE 4: harmony                                         CREDITS 8.5

WEEKS 28 – 36

FOCUS:                  Future Professionals will be trained in different perm techniques as well as how to safely and effectively chemically relax highly textured hair. The phase will also help to build strengths in styling and working with all textures of hair. State board techniques will be reviewed as well.

 


 

  

PHASE 5: expression                                     CREDITS 8.5

WEEKS 37 - 45

FOCUS:                  Tap into creativity and advanced techniques in the realm of color and cutting. FPs will combine techniques learned in all four phases and take it to the next level. The Expression Phase introduces some of the latest techniques and collections that Aveda and the Industry has to offer.

 



 

 

  

PHASE 6: insight                                            CREDITS 8.5

WEEKS 46 - 54

FOCUS:                  Trends in the industry are explored; such as editorial work, make-up and photo styling. FPs will design and prepare for a professional photo shoot that will take place at the end of the Insight Phase. An emphasis on professionalism and business is featured giving FPs the skills and information needed to create a great resume and focus on their future success. Future Professionals will have the opportunity to tour area salons and prepare for the interview process as well.

 

 

 
 

PHASE 7: wisdom                                           CREDITS 9

WEEKS 55 – 63 (weeks may vary depending on holidays and missed time)

FOCUS:        To prepare Future Professionals for Colorado’s State Board written and practical competency exams.
